The state of Sherfield
Sherfield Gardens is part of the Alton estate, down at then end of Danebury Avenue opposite Tunworth Crescent and the Alton School.
These photos were taken yesterday and show how neglected by the Conservative-run council Sherfield Gardens is.
I've asked the council to carry out an immediate "deep clean" of Sherfield Gardens, which self-evidently isn't being taken care in the way it should be. I've asked them to clear away the fly-tipping, unblock the clogged drains; sweep the paths properly; and repair the water damage to the ceilings of the corridors.
Sherfield Gardens has a lot of buy-to-let properties which are leased to residents who rarely stay longer than a year. With such a transient, high-turnover it's harder to keep clean because there are fewer long term residents who are often the ones who take the most pride in an area. In failing to even make the effort to keep the area clean, the Conservative Council is simply letting down local residents who pay their council tax like anyone else.
No-one should have to live in this sort of environment. Last year I had to spend a lot of time getting the council to rectify its neglect of Highcliffe Drive, Danebury Avenue, Harbridge Avenue, Hersham Close and Tunworth Crescent. Now I've had to intervene over Sherfield Gardens. The Council is clearly not up to taking care of the Alton estate. And here's the latest evidence:
